I’m a history buff so I like to know when certain things started and where and when. The California Lottery started on November 6th, 1984 after voters authorized the creation of a state lottery. The first california lottery numbers were chosen on October 3rd 1985. Just like all state lotteries, the one in California was instituted to provide extra money to local schools without imposing more taxes on citizens. So, the California Lottery has to give about 34% of its revenues to public education which is in addition to funds given by the state. It’s nice to know that the money for my ticket is going to a good cause.
