When children read personalized children’s books and gain interest in hearing about themselves in books it builds literacy and awareness.  Children can visualize themselves doing something and interacting with the characters which causes them to pay closer attention and attempt to understand the story in the book.  It increases vocabulary as they attempt to determine what each word is causing them to do in the book.  Comprehension skills increase as they access what has happened and what may happen throught the story of the book.  If you place a photo of themselves in the book that encourages it more so as they story becomes more real.
