There are more and more young people who are showing an interest in learning how to knit. But getting started can sometimes be a problem for younger people because it is not necessarily the "cool" thing to do. And as we all know, being cool is very important at certain ages. Here’s some tips for the prospective young knitter. First, your best bet by far is to enlist a family member to teach you. If your mother or older sister (or brother) is willing to help get you started, that is the perfect situation. You won’t have to deal with the embarrassment of asking for help outside the family and you’ll get one-on-one knitting instruction which is always best anyway. If this is not an option for you, your next best bet is to go to your local library and check out a couple of books on learning how to knit. These books are usually written at a level that a young person should have no trouble with. Take the books home and get started knitting on your own. You only really need to practice an hour or so a day to start to get good. at it. The important thing to keep in mind is to not get frustrated, sometimes you’ll make mistakes, but that’s just part of the learning. Hang in there.
