There is more than one effective way to breath when you are doing your ab workout.  Some experts recommend holding your breath and some recommend using shallow breaths.  Just see what you think fits into your own way of working out.  Provided that you are all checked out and healthy then any one of these 2 will work out for you. When doing a abs workout you should be concerned with keeping your ab muscles tight and restricted.  I like to keep my breath held while Im doing most of my ab work it just feels like Im getting more out of it.
