There’s something special about the remo djembe, and most of us have a hard time putting our finger on just exactly what it is that makes it special. In my little drumming group we all share each other’s instruments, but the remo djembe is by far everyone’s favorite. Its deep bass that can be achieved, married with its sharp staccato rim shots can bring out a primal longing that most people didn’t know that they had. So, I decided to look into it and discovered that this type of drum has been used in Africa for many, many years and perhaps this is the source of that primal longing.
