There are many great books available if you want to learn the art of photography.  One of my favorites was written by a wedding photojournalist who takes amazing portraits and candid photos.  Although there are several on the market, this book has tips on natural lighting, composition, and portrait ideas.  Most of the older books on the shelf were very dated with that same old style of wedding photos that seem pretty boring.  I have some basic skills but rather than take classes, I’m working my way up the direction of talented artists and their reference manuals.  I hope to save a lot of money and make some too.
