What relevance is Rock Music History?
When we say “rock music history” you usually think of people like Bill Haley and the Comets, Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. Its true that Rock music history does involve those people, but it also includes lots more recent events, like the passing away of Michael Jackson in 2009, the development of the grunge styles in the 1990’s, and the dance music genres which have evolved from Disco in the 1970s. These things can all be covered in a unit on the History of Rock and Roll from the 1950’s until today. This unit can be taught in as little as 10 weeks, or it could be stretched over a whole semester if you wished.
